Get Up and Walk!

The summer is just around the corner; yes you can do it! At least start by walking 3 times a week for 15 minutes each time. Exercise is great to lower stress, to reduce back pain, and to give you extra energy. Don’t stop now! Go outside to a park and suck in the energy of the runners and all the people you see, and just move one foot in front of the other. Don’t forget to bring water with lime or lemon juice and enjoy!

Have a Guilt Free Drink

May 21,2012
Yes, we want to be able to have good time and enjoy gatherings and parties, but we are always worried about the type of stuff we are going to drink. So, if you are planning on having a drink, think about the following: a 4oz glass of champagne has an average of 78 calories, a 5oz glass of wine gives you about 125 calories, but if you really want to feel the effects of alcohol you may have rum and diet coke for about 65 calories, or a shot of tequila with lime for 97 calories. All you need to do is to make up your mind, think about the drink or drinks you will enjoy best, and enjoy yourself. Besides that, there are more and more “skinny” versions of different cocktails at different restaurants, you just have to ask for them. But above all, just avoid drinking and driving! You always need to be alert and keep a safe ride for you and those around you!

Easy Steps to Reshape Your Body!

May 19,2012
Depending on your health, age, gender and your genetics you may have an easier or harder time changing your body. As I said before, in order to reshape your body you have to push harder and vary your routine at least every 4-6 weeks. Let’s say you walk 30 minutes, 3-5 days a week. If you still feel your legs aren’t tone, you may add squats or lounges at least 2 times a week. Again you walk for 30 minutes, 3-5 times a week but you are still a bit overweight. then you may want to walk holding weights to burn more calories during the same time. If you feel you still don’t have enough energy, you may want to walk 5 minutes and run for 1 minute as fast as you can till you complete your 30 minutes. You see how easy is to change your routine? It just takes a little imagination. As a reference you may look at some of my workout videos. See you around in your new and improved body!

Eating at Sammy’s!

May 15, 2012
Eating at Sammy’s
You may still go out and continue to eat healthy. If you go to Sammy’s, try their Grilled Chicken and Humus. Just substitute the lavish bread for lettuce wraps because you already have the carbohydrates in the hummus. You may also exchange the fries for sliced tomatoes and small pickles. Spice it up with Tabasco sauce and enjoy a healthy, well-balanced meal while you enjoy the company of your friends and/or family. You see, you can still be a social butterfly or a casual diner without the added pounds.

The Benefits of Water!

May 12,2012
Did you know that water is real important to the human body and if you drink enough of it you may be able to prevent the formation of gull bladder stones as well as kidney stones? What a great deal! Water will not only help to keep a radiant skin and a detoxified body, but it may prevent some health problems. So make sure you drink at least six 8 oz. cups of water a day in addition to the water you consume during exercise. To increase even more the efficiency of water, squeeze a lime or a lemon in it and simply enjoy. Besides the refreshing flavor, the acidity of the lemon could prevent the crystal formation of the ‘stones’. I am going to drink some water right now!

How To Fight Cravings

May 9,2012
If you are like me, very careful with breakfast and lunch, but weak and hungry around 3 PM, let me share with you a tip that has worked. Unfortunately I lower my guard as the day goes by. I don’t know if it has to do with my being tired, stressed or just hungry, but I can’t stop thinking about food and I can’t stop my desire to eat and eat. At times I am certainly hungry, but other times I eat and I still feel unsatisfied… not hungry, but craving something, like a pacifier. So I eat anything that is in front of me. I pull away from food and run away from work just to arrive to a home full of temptations; cookies, granola sweets, etc… So the one thing I find helpful is hiding them or not buying them. If they’re out of site, they’re out of mind. So remove whatever tempts you during those craving hours…

Brussel Sprouts!

May 5th, 2012
I grew up eating all sorts of vegetables and I guess I am lucky. I love them all. How about Brussels sprouts? Do you ever eat them?
They require a little bit more than just a few minutes to cook, but they are well worth the wait. I especially enjoy them roasted, in the oven for a good 25 min. I use my magic oil spray and cover the bottom of a tray with it. Cut one onion in 4ths, about 5 chopped pieces of garlic, add about 20 sprouts, and place it all in a container. Sprinkle some salt and pepper to taste, and mix well. You may also spray some more oil on top of the mix to completely roast the Brussels sprouts. Place the mix on the tray and put in the oven on 450F for about 25 min. Check often to stir to get an even roast. Enjoy with rice and chicken or meat of your choice. It is a great treat, free of fat or cholesterol and rich in vitamin ‘C’. I specially like them with green salsa. “Mmmm, mmm my mouth is watering!

At The Mission!

May 1st, 2012
If you feel like you want to go out for a healthy breakfast, try ‘The Mission’. They have 3 locations in San Diego. Their coffee is strong, full of body, and has a really pleasant taste. Then get ‘The Zen’; it is a perfect combination of scrambled egg whites, stir fried tofu, grilled zucchini and brown rice. I like to substitute my tofu with black beans “de la olla.” They are great! You can’t go wrong, they are slow cooked instead of fried. In fact they have no extra oil or fat. Sometimes I also exchange my brown rice with more grilled zucchini, I just add hot sauce to it and I am in heaven! By the way, the exchange allows me to have a taste of the fabulous ‘French Toast’, but just a taste. Sounds good?

How to Cook Kale

You would love to add veggies to your diet but you have no new ideas how to incorporate different ones? How about kale? It’s really light on calories, 36 per serving, and super rich on vitamin A and C and it also contains calcium and iron. The truth of the matter is, it’s delicious. In a pan, spray oil, 1 cup chopped onions and 4 slices of turkey. Stir occasionally until onions are caramelized. Add about 4 cups of kale already washed and chopped and a pinch of salt for seasoning. Add about ¼ cup of water and cover til kale is soft. You may serve it over brown rice or just next to a grilled fish filet. This makes about 4 servings. It is soooo good!
